World music – World food – World love
Kaya launched in 2012 as a new music festival set overlooking the Snowdonia National Park offering an assortment of African, Jamaican, Caribbean and world musical flavours along with a diverse range of workshops, food stalls and festival activities. The festival did suffer from teething problems, particularly where provision families was concerned, although if they work on the issues raised this could be a real little gem of a festival with a unique atmosphere and culture – read the reviews for more information.
Highlights for families/kids:
There is the Kultural Fusion Kids Zone which features a circus tent where you can find workshops, arty fun, a solar cinema and face painting. Learn to juggle, take a walk through the woodland art trail, make your own fancy dress.
What makes Kaya unique:
The festival is a new venture for business partners and musicians Thabani Nyoni and Dece Gambe. Kaya is a southern African word for home.
“2012 is a great year to kick off our new festival, we are offering something a bit different to the local and UK festival crowd celebrating diversity, music and art in beautiful North Wales,” said Thabani.
Keeping the festival affordable and leaving a sustainable economic footprint is important to the organisers.
“We are keeping tickets prices at a reasonable level to encourage local people and families to attend. The Vaynol excelled when they hosted the BBC Radio 1 music festival, we perform regularly in North Wales, we wanted the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic location,” said Thabani.
Festival organisers are working with local companies to source goods and services from the North Wales area.
“Larger impersonal festivals are being hit by the economic climate; there is still a place for smaller capacity cottage festivals that offer a unique music experience. Kaya will be born in Wales, ‘home to the world’” said Thabani.

There will be a Quiet Zone in the camping area, suitable for families and anyone else who requires it. Due to the location of the Quiet Zone there will be a slightly longer walk to the other festival areas.
