Play Festival is a festival like no other: a feast of amazing shows, mind-boggling workshops, beautiful music, smiley faces and all round silliness. The focus is squarely on circus skills and performance arts and it will be awash with beautiful, ridiculous, wonderful and outrageous things from the very beginning until the last person has gone home!
What’s On? There’ll be spectacular fire performance, seriously epic shows, workshops to keep you busy, music to die for, walkabouts, foolishness to keep the kids entertained, and the lovely folks from Spinning@ to relax you when it’s all getting a bit too hectic.
There is an open fire area that will be marshalled every night, for which some fuel is provided – though if you want to play loads, do bring some of your own!
Families are welcome at PLAY Festival, and there is lots to entertain the little ones. There is also a small adventure area with a scramble net, rope bridge and a wooden tree house.
The site is a beautiful mix of leafy areas, open glades, courtyards, indoor spaces and camping fields. Campervans, trailertents and caravans are welcome but will be kept separate from tents for licensing reasons. There will be showers on site.
If you want to stay in comfort you can stay in the Workhouse Bunkhouse. It’s near the main tent, has its own own toilet and lounge, costs £10 per person per night and if you stay there they offer a cooked breakfast for £3 instead of £5. Getting there: Llanfyllin (Hlan-voff-len) Workhouse is on the outskirts of the village of Llanfyllin, in Powys. It is 25 miles from Shrewsbury, and is easily reached by public transport – you can take a train to Welshpool and change to the D76 bus, which takes you right to the festival gate. The buses don’t run on Sundays, so the PLAYbus will run regularly between 10am and 4pm from the site to Welshpool railway station.
If you do need to drive to the festival there is a £5 payment per vehicle. Please share your vehicles and help cut down on pollution. And if you are travelling on Friday, please be aware that V Festival is taking place just off the M54 – it might be worth planning another route if you can. Local knowledge suggests that the M54 will be ok, but the A5 around V Festival is definitely to be avoided.
