In 2013 I wrote article about how festivals are the new family holiday, and the team behind the wonderful Shambala Festival have had exactly the same thought!
Last year they launched the successful Starry Skies, the new family holiday that looks like a festival. It’s for families only so it removes the more shady side of festival going and adds to the ‘back to nature’ side that is so fantastic for the children.
We’re so excited about this one. It promises all sorts of nature activities such as den building, tree climbing, rope swings, wild swimming, storytelling in the woods and star gazing. There will also be entertainment for the adults including a swing dance night, hot tubs and music.
Added to the fact that it’s set in a beautiful country estate, nestled between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains, in the beautiful Monnow Valley on the Welsh Borders, and you have an ideal family holiday!
Brought to you by the award winning production team behind family-friendly Shambala Festival, they promise Starry Skies will be the “perfect family camping holiday” with a stunning location, plenty of activities, top notch facilities, an affordable price and the laid back festival vibe Shambala is famous for.
Campers will have the exclusive use of a beautiful country estate with rivers, rolling fields, breath-taking views and ancient woodlands and meadows.
The Giant Tipi Centre Camp will be at the heart of the site with organised activities and live entertainment throughout the day so families aren’t at the mercy of our unpredictable British weather! The Giant Tipi programme will feature live entertainment programmed by Shambala Festival, a wide range of workshops, kids’ breakfast club and stories and cocoa before bedtime, The Starry Skies Cinema Club and much more.
Starry Skies campers can expect lots of attention to detail to make the site really special; think pre-built campfires, fresh bread and croissants delivered to your tent in the morning and dressing up boxes dotted around the site. There will also be luxury yurts for hire, hot showers, wheelbarrows for transporting camping gear and lots of communal undercover areas with cushions and rugs.
With a capacity of only 250 families, Starry Skies will be an intimate affair, providing the perfect opportunity for kids to roam free in nature and enjoy an impressive array of organised activities including green den building, tree climbing, bushcraft skills, forest school, wild swimming, farm tours, storytelling in the woods, natural art and crafts, star gazing and cookery lessons.
Adults have plenty to choose from too with The ‘Me Time’ Lounge offering a range of therapies, hot tubs, yoga and t’ai chi, a bar serving everything from real ale to cocktails and post-watershed live entertainment programmed by the Shambala team including a swing dance night and The Battle of the Dad DJs!
The onsite restaurant, Henry’s Beard Café, will serve its award-winning homemade fare throughout the day and the The Starry Store will be well stocked with delicious local produce; perfect for campfire cooking.
With the Gower Peninsula, the Wye Valley and the Pembrokeshire coast within easy reach, campers can extend their trip beyond the weekend and make the most of the start of the summer holidays.
Creative Director Sid Sharma said that Starry Skies is a natural progression for the Shambala organisers:
“We started Shambala over a decade ago when we were all footloose and fancy free! Over the years we’ve worked really hard to build an award winning family-friendly festival, improving the experience for families year on year based on what they tell us they want.”
“With all of that experience under our belts – and a few kids of our own along the way – we have a good understanding of what the perfect family camping experience looks like and we’re pretty sure that Starry Skies will be as close as you can get to it!”
The weather’s looking great and there are just a handful of tickets left!
