Family Activities
From urban fox hunts to teddy bears picnics to cardboard treehouses, the family programme will include food, film, music, making and dressing up.
An active programme to allow parents to briefly revisit their own youthful festival prime and introduce the next generation to the joys of communal fun – artist-led workshops and performance specially for families by Biennial and a selection of the very best of what makes Just So Festival (the boutique festival of creativity aimed at children, young people and their families) so very special.
Delivered jointly by Summercamp, Liverpool Biennial and Just So Festival, family activities will run from 11am to 7pm.
Art
This will be an arts festival without exhibits. With an arts programme including pioneering electronica, factory drawing sessions and artist more this will be a festival for doing, making and eating art.
As part of this the UK’s contemporary art biennial Liverpool Biennial will present The Experimental Music School, a family programme for all ages – an exciting two days filled with music-related workshops, games, experiments, talks and performances by artists, musicians and composers – including our first announcement, the Dutch experimental luthier and musician Yuri Landman, who has created experimental electric instruments for Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth amongst others and will be hosting an instrument building workshop and live ensemble piece at Summercamp.
Food
Summercamp is serious about culinary fun; with a street food market, food slams, pop-up kitchens, teddy bears picnic, mere trifles, hot dogs and warm tarts. Curated by guest chef Simon Rimmer and our own Steven Burgess, we will be bringing street food and top chefs head to head and mixing it all up in the kitchen.
The Street Food Market will bring together the best kerbside traders from across the UK. This is honest food at honest prices, made by passionistas and aficionados, from classic paella and wood fired pizza to our own-grown lancashire cheese and apple sherbet doughnuts. And our first headliner will be the Michelin starred chef and restauranteur Glynn Purnell – who will be creating and delivering two gourmet menus during Summercamp.
Music
This isn’t the festival for this year’s most famous in a field of thousands. Instead expect some of the best talent, up close and personal. Quality not quantity is the ethos for both artist selection and audience experience. We won’t be promising something for everyone, just the pick of the bunch in the best place to see these acts bar none.
