When the heady days of summer festivals are over for the year I always look forward to the truly magical event that is the real halloween.
From the creators of the annual Fairy Fair, The Fairyland trust, created the real Halloween in 2010. The main aim to teach the real meaning of Halloween not the plastic horror show we are so commonly exposed to in this day in age.
I was delighted to be invited back to Festival on the Farm this year. The wonderful setting of Gressenhall farm and workhouse is a place close to the heart of any Norfolk school child who has attended a Victorian day while at school and has evolved into one of the best tourist attractions around with a working farm, workhouse, play area and delightful grounds.
Roll up! Roll up! Camp Bestival’s Travelling Circus in Balham and Hackney Wick….
This May Big Fish Little Fish are holding their last two full London parties until September.
They are part of the Camp Bestival’s Travelling Circus tour and they’ve really pulled out all the stops with loads of special extras – synth workshops, dressing up box and and incredible interactive installation.
BFLF will also be resident in the Bollywood Tent at Camp Bestival this year on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The fancy dress code for the two raves in May is, of course: “Circus!” and our guests can buy specially discounted Camp Bestival tickets at the events. Read more…

Gressenhall Farm and workhouse,
Dereham, Norfolk.
I was delighted to find a flyer for the annual spring fair at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse in my local paper. Being familiar with this popular tourist attraction and school trip favourite, having been as a child and an adult I knew it would be a great day out.
St Andrews Hall, St Andrews Plain, Norwich, Norfolk
The Fairyland Trust returns this December with it’s third event of the year at St Andrew’s Hall in Norwich. This one day event taking place on 15th December, brings you the magic and beauty of a real Christmas experience in true Fairyland Trust style with unique workshops introducing families to wildlife and conservation and their unique vibe.
The event will be a smaller than the charities, Fairy Fair or Real Halloween and is held indoors. Children can take part in bookable workshops including Christmas Fairy’s where they will hear the story of why we put fairies on top of our Christmas trees, and then make one of their own to take home or, new for this year, a Christmas Light where they can create a unique magical woodland-themed Christmas Light to grace any table whilst learning what magical creatures get up to in Mid-Winter.
Father Christmas will also be in residence in his beautiful grotto with Mrs Christmas, ready to meet children. Other activities include Christmas Tree Animal decoration making, Christmas Pixie Post Office (including a specially designed Lucy LoveHeart postcard), face painting and more.
Abbie Panks from the Fairyland Trust said “we are delighted to be running Fairy Christmas again this year; it’s a beautifully atmospheric event and last year proved incredibly popular with it selling out in just a few hours of going on sale, as with all of our events we advise people to book in advance”
There will be a Christmas Café selling food and drinks including Christmas Soup, Mince Pies, and Mulled Wine And entertainment will come from The E.L.F Ukulele Troubadours with their Christmas songs together with toe-tapping fiddle playing from a variety of wandering minstrels. The trusts lovely Sugar Plum Fairy will emerge on the hour to twirl to Tchaikovsky’s famous music and lead a dance for any budding ballerinas.
And there will be a selection of beautiful hand crafted gifts to buy from the Christmas market.

One of the great things about Christmas is spending some magical time with the whole family. It is a fantastic time to be in the UK; with lights, celebrations, carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine. We’re looking forward to getting our sledges out and ice skates on!
Festival Kidz have been looking for the Christmas events which are less about commercialism and more about celebrating community, music, arts and crafts, and the outdoors. With the odd Santa’s grotto thrown in.
I’ve bumped in to a number of the Twiggle Team over the course of the summer as they were out on tour with their marquee of wonder at various events. They were a godsend at Latitude in family camping where we spent every morning before going into the main arena and were extremely supportive of me and my family when I injured my knee in their marquee on the last day of the festival. They also made Eila’s day at North Norfolk Food Festival as she thought she was back at Latitude!
So it was back to Holt Hall for the magical Real Halloween run by the Fairyland Trust charity. This year Eila and I left Daddy and Evan at home and took fellow FK mum Heather and her son Noah, 3.
We arrived at 11am on the Sunday (due to the clock changes the timing is different on Sunday) so were there from the off. A short queue and we were in. There were musicians entertaining the crowd on the way in which really set the mood for me: a fun, chilled day was waiting for us. Read more…
