Chilled in a Field 2011 Review

The weather at Chilled in a Field 2011 was wonderfully sunny then heavy rain on Friday, patchy sunshine rest of time with light rain Sunday. A bit cold and windy on the last day.

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

There was no queue at all, and I never saw more than 3 or 4 at a time waiting to get in. The campsite was organised into “quiet in the morning” and “quiet in the evening” with plenty of space in each for us to choose where to set up our family camp. We had 5 children, and 8 tents in our camp area, so were quite self-contained, not affected by other campers, but close enough to everyone to still enjoy. The walk from car to tent was not very far at all, although there is a hill, but there were people on hand to help carry your stuff for a small donation. On the exit day, due to the bad weather, we were able to drive our car down to pack up. This was a luxury I can not thank them enough for!

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

The DJ’s were awesome, with a great deal of variety. The live music isn’t really my thing, but there were some superb acts that kept the children enthralled. There were activities planned all day, every day, so there was always something to entertain all the kids. The various arts & crafts sessions and the giant marble runs were definitely the highlights.

What would you change / improve (if anything)?

The weather could have been better!! We should have packed more toys, for before/after/in between the planned activities.

Any other comments and your Top Tip:

Camp with other like-minded families, it helps loads!!!

On the rainy days, there were plenty of covered areas to still be able to enjoy the activities.

Site and Facilities:

There were compost toilets which were pretty and practical, as well as male & female urinals (hay bales). We were provided with a site map, but being a small festi, we could reach everything quite easily. After being warned of bad mobile coverage, we had no problem the whole weekend. There was running water, covered showers, washing up area and charging point. We didn’t need anything!

Did you feel safe?

Yes, completely. The security were friendly, the crew were always visible, the other campers were considerate and helpful. We were able to relax and enjoy the festival whilst our son played and enjoyed it too.

Would you go again?

Yes, definately

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

Easiest setup ever.  Only maybe 2 or 300 yards from the car to where we pitched the tent.  No queue, and the people on the gate showed us which areas were designated quiet areas.  I camped with my friends in the “non quiet area” and neither myself or my daughter had trouble sleeping.

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

Skye loved the music, there was lots of floaty chilled out music to listen to and also some faster stuff to jump up and down to in the other tent.  There was kid’s storytelling with crowd interaction, there were craft workshops to make masks, fairy wings and castles, space hoppers & hula hoops.  Oh and a little maze with a watchtower in the centre.  They certainly were never bored!

What would you change / improve (if anything)?

More sun please!  And longer opening hours for the kitchen.

Any other comments and your Top Tip:

I honestly don’t know a better festival to take kids.  All the adults looked out for the children regardless of who they belong to and treated them with respect as individuals rather than ignoring them.  I felt totally comfortable letting her roam around the site and it was great seeing a load of parents dancing with their kids 🙂
It was hard work at times, but kids are!

Site and Facilities:

Compost toilets which are different, but kept very clean and are brightly painted and have solar powered lights.  There was ALWAYS toilet roll and hand sanitiser.  Best toilets ever I think.  The little one found them curious but non-threatening.

Did you feel safe?

Totally and utterly.  I had no problem leaving my stuff lying around as I knew it would be safe.  Everyone was totally respectful and friendly, there really isn’t a vibe quite like it.

Would you go again?

Definately

9/10
