Charity Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Camp Bestival
Time to dig out your old children’s unwanted teddies because this summer saw the launch of ‘Persil Pass on the Love‘ picnics, fronted by DJ, TV presenter and mum Jo Whiley. Mums and their little ones were encouraged to get together with friends, bring along their once-loved-but-now-forgotten teddies – newly washed – and swap them with other children to be cherished again!
We all know that kids quickly grow out of their teddies, so rather than throw them away, Jo is encouraging families to bring their old (but clean!) soft toys and then pass them on for another child to love – either by swapping with a friend or donating them to charity partner Oxfam.

This post will hopefully convince anyone who has hummed and hahhed over taking their children to a festival. E is currently in bed moaning that she wants to go back & A keeps getting up wondering why he isn’t still out having fun in the Castle Field watching live music and having a better time than being at home!

Pregnant Festivalling Part 1
Many people would baulk in horror at the thought of going to a festival when pregnant, I however don’t see an issue with it at all. Maybe it’s because many of my fellow mummy friends (who have never been to a festival) think that I will be spending the weekend covered head to toe in mud, surrounded by drunk people and being bashed around in a mosh pit. 2010 Camp Bestival weather: Warm in the day and a little chillier at night but not really cold cold.

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:
We got there about 10.30 am and still had quite a queue to get in. We hired a cart to take our stuff into the camping field which were quite expensive. Didn’t have a problem getting a space as we were early but it filled up quickly and people were squeezing into any available gap by mid afternoon.
Had been very dry in the few weeks before so was very dusty and hard to get pegs in the ground, make sure you take robust ones!

It’s official – Festivals are good for you!
I’m a big fan of music festivals. I think they’re great.
They support the Arts, they support children’s creative and social development… and now it seems they support our economy in a huge way too!
Today UK Music released the biggest report so far into the economics of the lowly music festival and put figures against the live music industry’s financial contribution. The results are quite staggering and make for very interesting reading if you’re into that sort of thing. You can view the full report here.

Going to a festival pregnant?
Of course you can!…
… if you want to. A lot will depend on how you feel, and on what stage of pregnancy you are at.
All the usual rules apply about eating, drinking, resting, smoking, etc so I’m not going to preach about all that to you. But there are some things you should pay a little extra attention to.
Belly Painting – get into the spirit of fun and show of your gorgeous bump by getting it painted. The Face Painters will love the opportunity to unleash their creativity on you and you will get some very memorable photos.
This gorgeous full-body paint was done at the Acoustic Festival 2011 by the immensely talented artists Cree from Creeations and Liz McAvoy from Flashy Faces.
