Common people is a new festival for 2015 and is curated by the Bestival family. It is a metropolitan, city based festival and takes place on the May Bank Holiday in the leafy surroundings of Southampton Common.

Bestival’s creative team will be flexing their visionary muscles, taking the spirit of Bestival to the heart of Southampton, transforming the common into a world of wonder with a host of fantastical fun, daytime diversions, amusements and good times for one and all.

Music

Common People’s musical line-up features headliners Fatboy Slim and Grace Jones and fantastic music including De La SoulJaguar SkillsDJ YodaGeorge the PoetPlastic Mermaids,Funky Little Choir, and Mr Motivator on Saturday.  And Clean Bandit,Band of SkullsYears & Years,Kitty, Daisy & Lewis,Slaves,The Cuban Brothers, Craig Charles and West End Kids on Sunday.

There is also a fantastic selection of underground electronic music. Saturday will see Junk at the controls with sets from Dusky, Huxley, Wayze & Odyssey, Dense & Pika and more. And Switch take over on Sunday with Chicago house legend Derrick Carter, Seconcity, Rob da Bank, and more

Activities

Although Common people differs from Camp Bestival in that it is not purely aimed at families, there are lots of family friendly activities taking place, including yarnbombing, hoedowns, morris dancing, Big Top Mania circus, trapeze lessons, tree house theatre, Big Bear’s big balloon disco, trapeze lessons, toddler play area, face painting, circus skills, craft tents and more.

Facilities

This is a city based festival and accommodation/ camping facilities are not available on site. Accommodation packages and hotel information are available through the website.

For an additional fee, access is available to the VIP area called The Nook. This features enhanced restroom facilities, food and cocktail areas.

Accessible facilities are provided including blue badge parking, access to viewing areas, accessible toilets and complimentary tickets for personal assistants.

There is a variety of reasonably priced food options available, including child friendly options and afternoon teas. A selection of alcoholic drinks are available, including craft beer and ale and the day of the dead cocktail bus.
