Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival

Where: various sites around Suffolk 27th September- 13th October
Food festival event at Snape Maltings, Suffolk on 28th and 29th September

Aldeburgh food and drink festival is a celebration of Norfolk and Suffolk food producers and was started in 2006 to help publicise the abundance of local produce and help people to reconnect with the countryside and where their food comes from.

The festival has a range of fringe events consisting of workshops, classes, talks and presentations following the main event held at the beautiful Snape Maltings, also home to world famous concert halls of the Aldeburgh Festival of Music

The festival aims to-

Help people understand the connection between food and the people, the farming and the landscape that produced it

Celebrate and publicise the amazing variety, quality and abundance of food and drink produced in the Alde Valley and along the coast of East Suffolk

Encourage people to support the local economy and reduce ‘food miles’ by buying local produce in the shops, farm shops, farmers markets, pubs, restaurants, hotels and bed-and-breakfasts

Work with local schools to bring back growing food and cooking it as part of the curriculum

Encourage people to grow and cook their own food – Grow It! Cook It! Eat It!

To publicise East Suffolk as a food destination

To encourage people to visit the Suffolk countryside, wildlife reserves, market towns and villages

To publicise Suffolk County Council’s Greenest Suffolk initiative

What’s on offer for families

There are a range of drop in activities and pre bookable workshops for children 7 and over (from £10) so an event mainly older children will enjoy more than the smaller ones. Children can learn to make a range of delicious, healthy and “kid friendly” foods. However children of all ages are very much welcomed to the event and have the opportunity to sample different foods. Also away from the main festival site is plenty of space to run around in and enjoy the Suffolk breeze.

If you are foodie fans and are passionate about teaching your children where food comes from then this will be a great day out for you!
