Balloch O’Dee Music Weekend: 27-29 September 2013

This is not a formal festival, rather it is a weekend marked out in the Balloch O’Dee calendar dedicated to music. Musicians as well as those who just love to listen to campfire strums and singing can come and join in the fun in a very relaxed and beautiful campsite. There will be families, musicians, campfires, candlelight… and hopefully no clouds so you can enjoy the impressive stargazing too!
Balloch O’ Dee is a beautiful small farm nestled in stunning countryside on the edge of the Galloway national forest park. Romany (Festival Kidz editor) and her family stayed there this summer and soon decided it was right up there with their favourite campsites of all time!
There are loads of horses and ponies on site, as well as rare breed chickens scuttling around free-range from which you are welcome to eat any eggs you find! There are rabbits and puppies to cuddle too. There is a little stream for dam building and quiet country lanes for family cycling. The children absolutely adored it.
Balloch O’Dee is a place where you can just come and get away from it all in peace and quiet but it’s also somewhere that you can sit around the campfire with other guests if you feel like it and play your instruments, chat and sing and watch the shooting stars.
It’s 15 minutes from the coast with numerous wonderful beaches (and great crab fishing) and it’s surrounded by forests and the mountains of Cullvenan Fell. We even saw seals very close up as we enjoyed our beach picnic en route to the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse.
The owners, James and Hazel, moved here in April 2010 after camping in Scotland for many years. Their dream was to create a lovely small campsite with plenty of space and a really relaxed atmosphere and they are continually looking for ways to make a stay at Balloch O’ Dee a truly memorable one. They are definitely well on track to fulfilling that dream.
