Nestled within the picturesque Sussex countryside is a 15th-century moated castle – England’s Medieval Festival happens every August Bank Holiday weekend at Herstmonceux Castle. The perfect setting for a truly magical weekend where history comes to life.

England’s Medieval Festival is the most authentic, one-of-a-kind event with a very special blend of history and fun for the whole family. The largest event of its kind in the UK, held over the August bank holiday at the stunning setting of Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, a warm welcome awaits at a weekend like no other. From the moment you arrive, you are surrounded by the sights, sounds and excitement of medieval times.

Activities and Entertainment for all

Twice daily Battles with over 1000 Knights, Bowmen and Men-at-Arms and full cannon support; armoured Knights Jousting and Skill-at-Arms Tournaments on horseback; breathtaking Falconry displays; Longbow and Crossbow Competitions, Have-A-Go-Archery; spectacular Grand Parades; Mud Theatre, Puppeteers, Jesters, Strolling Minstrels; Europe’s largest Medieval Traders’ Market; fabulous Craft Stalls; Living History Encampments; music, dance and storytelling; Robin Hood Adventure Forest, Princess and Warrior Schools; Kids’ Kingdom with games and shows; Beer Taverns & Hog Roasts; Medieval Banquet and much, much more…..

In addition to all the medieval entertainment, kids can enjoy the moonlit cinema, fireside storytelling and stargazing and heaps of space in the campsite to run free. The Buxom Wench Tavern hosts some of the UK’s finest folk music until late into the evening and the mystical castle setting provides a magical memorable experience for all the family.

Camping, Glamping and B&B

As well as general camping in the glorious castle grounds, there are traditional medieval glamping options to truly immerse your family in days gone by.  For those that do not enjoy camping but wish to stay at the event (day tickets also available), there is B&B accommodation available on-site for the entire Festival weekend.

Accessibility

The event site is very flat with easy access for pushchairs and wheelchairs. There are good facilities for families and the camping is just a few minutes walk from parking and all the action of the event.

Medieval Banquet

A Feast fit for a King or Queen! Herstmonceux Castle Grand Ballroom welcomes guests to enjoy an evening banquet with music, food and wine plus the option to join in the fun after dinner at the Buxom Wench tavern on the festival grounds. Additional tickets required.

England’s Medieval Festival provides a magical medieval experience and many guests have been returning for over 20 years, now enjoying the experience with their own children and even grandchildren. Guests and medieval re-enactors, performers and tradespeople from all over the UK and beyond enjoying this unique event with displays getting bigger and more spectacular every year.
