England’s Medieval Festival 2018 Review

A day at England’s Medieval Festival
These two young royals, their grandparents, and I were lucky enough to experience England’s enchanting Medieval Festival this summer in the magnificent grounds of Herstmonceux Castle.
On arrival we were met with the gorgeous view of a sea of canvas tents beautifully pitched around the main arena. A crowd had already formed and as we got nearer we realised a jousting tournament was in full swing!
The kids wriggled their way to the front and we enjoyed an awesomely potent performance put on by big men on powerful horses, all authentically dressed in medieval jousting costume. Fabulous! There were many intakes of breath by the crowd, including my Mum, and the kids were transfixed. This was our welcome to England’s Medieval Festival and what a way to greet the crowds!
Boomtown 2018 Review
The Greatest Show
My first Boomtown was like a child’s first visit to the circus. Bright lights, sound, whirling colour, and with that sense of genuine excitement and adventure you feel when you have no idea what’s going to happen next.
From the moment we walked out over the wonderfully relaxed Whistlers Green to look out over the Vegas style city of Downtown I knew I was somewhere special.
Just So 2018 Review
Just So was such a jam-packed blast of a ride that when I first sat down to write this review I had no idea how I would fit it all in. It really is a non-stop assault of fun, creativity, the fantastical and the downright bonkers.

Green Man 2018 Review
Oh Green Man, what a beauty you are! Nestled at the base of the Black Mountains, this is a very special festival indeed. In fact it wasn’t just a festival, it was a whole week’s holiday in glorious Wales.

Green Meadows Festival 2018 Review
In 2017 Green Meadows Festival celebrated its 6th year when it was awarded the Festival Kidz Gold award in the ‘Best Small Festival’ category. The festival is indeed quite small, around the 2000-2500 people size, with weekend and day tickets available at a very reasonable price. The festival donates a large portion of money made to the Teenage Cancer Trust every year and most of the event staff are locals volunteering their time for free.

If Wickham Festival taught us one thing, it’s that just because a festival is not on Festival Kidz’ radar, it certainly doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be.

The Downs Bristol 2018 Review
The Downs Bristol was a great example of how children and adults can mix at a festival. I love how, at 2.00 in the afternoon we were painting rocks and making bicycle-powered smoothies in the kids’ area. Yet by 10.30 the kids were on our shoulders in a large crowd of very merry gig-goers, singing along to Wonderwall at the tops of their voices.
Beautiful Days 2018 Review
The first time we went to Beautiful Days in 2011, we knew we’d found a very special event. This was our fifth Beautiful Days, and it is still our favourite place to be.
We had such a lovely welcome as we approached the information tent, the guy that runs it (I can’t believe we don’t know his name yet) called out, “You’re back!”

Bluedot Festival 2018 Review
Bluedot Festival is a celebration of intelligence, curiosity and wonder in all its forms.
Scientists are on equal footing with rock stars and there were some beautiful moments where the two come together, such as watching Professor Tim O’Brien, Associate Director at Jodrell bank for Astrophysics interviewing Wayne Coyne, the frontman of psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips.
At Bluedot the queues to see some of the most famous and inspiring scientists are so long that they need security!
Victorious 2018 Review
I had been excitedly looking forward to Victorious for some time as the line up was astounding! I was also curious about how a festival with bands as big as The Prodigy could also manage to be a family friendly festival.
Victorious have this absolutely spot on. Both my children and I loved it. There was so much to do! We didn’t manage to get round it all but we gave it a good go (as much as the weather would permit) and found this to be a sensational and safe festival with more than enough for all of us.
