Accessibility at Festivals

Most festivals do what they can to be accessible to as many as possible. After all, they want to be popular, and to exclude people from attending would obviously result in less ticket sales!

The Red Barrows at Bearded Theory

It’s hard to think of Bearded Theory without remembering the delightful Red Barrows.

Festivals often have regular acts that are invited back year after year due to their unwaivering popularity. Bearded Theory’s staple favourites are The Red Barrows from Bonsall. Read more…

Bearded Theory 2016 Review

Beards, barrows and brilliant music

“Hello, we’re Terrorvision and we’re from Bradford. Or should I say, we’re Terrorvision and we’re from the nineties!”

This cheeky statement summed up Bearded Theory for me, and got a huge cheer from the crowd for the same reason. Because for us it was truly a festival of nostalgia from the ‘good old days’ when we were younger.

The Bearded Theory crowd is truly something unique – I am sure these are the same people I was dancing in a field with all those years ago. So this is where everyone ended up! It was full of so many friendly up-for-it people.

Bearded Theory’s Ofsted Registered Festival School

Eloise on the decks, learning to DJ
Future DJ?

In 2014 I wrote an article about taking children out of school for festivals, as due to a change in the law, authorised absences can no longer be given by schools. Of course as editor of this website I continue to maintain that music festivals are educational places for children and that it is worth taking them out of school, although I believe this should be done with the permission of the school. Growing up at festivals my children have participated in many workshops – in art, fabrics and weaving, woodworking, stone carving, pottery, cooking, science, drama, nature and forest skills, dj-ing, music, dance and much more. They have gained confidence in themselves and social skills in making friends and have learned to express themselves freely. Festivals are an amazing learning opportunity for our children, they encourage learning through play which has been proven many times as the best way for young children to learn. Read more…

Bearded Theory 2015 Review

This festival just gets bigger and better!

Beards!

Bearded Theory first came to my attention three years ago, when I noticed a truly impressive line up for such a small event. We were lucky enough to win tickets the following year, and loved it. Going back this year, despite the location change I was expecting more of the same, but this was certainly not the case. Now in its eighth year, there was much MUCH more of the same and more so. Bearded Theory Festival 2014 Review

Bearded Theory ……Angels with Dirty Faces

I expected a lot from Bearded as they were voted for by festival-going parents to win a Gold award in the FK awards last year, and I am pleased to say I was not disappointed. Bearded Theory is an excellent “small” festival, it is well priced, has an eclectic and interesting line up and is fantastic festival for families.

Bearded Theory 2013 Parent Review

bearded theory 2013Review by Joanne Murphy:

Bearded Theory 2013 was my 2nd ever festival.

Sitting near a river, listening to a waterfall (all very safely fenced off), whilst the kids play under a huge ancient tree, was a million miles away from anything I expected my first Bearded experience to be.
