2011 WOMAD Weather: Little bit of light rain on Friday but weekend was lovely and sunny

Review by: Freya, age 10

Hi! My name is Freya and I am at Womad.

My favourite things about Womad are: the people are all kind, the music is wicked and the food is lush!
The thing I don’t like about Womad is that they always make the bass too loud so if they have a bass in the band you always either have to buy ear-plugs or go to the back of the crowd.

If I had to rate this festival I would give it 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

Easy, family camping south area was very near the parking, other campers were friendly and there was lots of space – was great!

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

Line up was excellent, kids enjoyed the world of children, lots of craft activities etc and steam fair plus in the evening they played well with their friends whilst adults watched the bands

What would you change / improve (if anything)?

Preferred the communal showers from last year as less of a queue.

Any other comments and your Top Tip:

Get there on the Thursday if you can – lovely vibe and chance to get a good parking spot near the camping

Site and Facilities:

Loos near family area clean and regularly serviced, bit of a queue for showers but clean and warm.  Site wide free wifi was great plus good Vodafone 2.5 and 3G coverage.

Did you feel safe?

Yes

Would you go again?

Yes!!!

10/10

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

We drove straight in on Friday night as we had a tent pitch next to a caravan but others in our party had to squeeze their tent in with the other tents. We couldn’t have got our tents side by side… maybe turning up Fri morning would have helped. Bit of a trek from the car to tent but the garden trug helped with that. There is a family campming area on a first come first served basis. Showers were miles away from the caravan area that we were in but we just washed in bowls of water.

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

Children’s World is full of craft workshops etc. It was really busy by ten each day and many of the workshops were full. We managed to get free face painting and henna on the sunday. The fun fair was great but is extra money. Our kids had fun dancing and playing anyway. A lot of the stalls have things for the kids to do whilst you are browsing. Great variety of music with 4 plus things to choose from at a time. Chill out area great for time out (or pop back to tent).  Food AMAZING!

What would you change / improve (if anything)?

More shade in the main areas maybe but over all facilities are great

Any other comments and your Top Tip:

I would always take something to wheel the kids around in as there is alot of walking involved. Don’t be scared of camping as the site was quiet and everyone was lovely

Site and Facilities:

Toilets weren’t too far from tent and were very frequent around the festival site. Exceptionally clean and never without toilet roll… lots of anti bac outside each one. Hardly ever queued.

Did you feel safe?

Really safe, we put our mobile numbers on the kids. We had a couple of accidents throughout the weekend and the First Aid team were fab.

Would you go again?

Yes

10/10
