Festival reviews from the year 2017
Boomtown 2017 review
Boomtown is a 60,000 person capacity music festival held on the Matterley Estate, Winchester in August and has been running since 2009. It is described by the organisers as a pop up city of wonderment, theatre, escapism and community with eleven districts filled with a fully immersive and theatrically led experience, with hundreds of actors bringing the film-like street sets to life.
FarmFest 2017 Review
This was the 12th year of Farmfest, which next year takes a break. Perhaps that’s why in the pouring rain its faithful partygoers kept smiling determined to make the most of the festival’s special blend of great sounds and shenanigans.
Farmfest is for those who love their music and like to get down, kick back and cut loose. It is, however, primarily a grown-ups festival (the music goes on until 4am) that also caters for those who like to bring their kids along. It’s friendly, safe, has a good ethos and as a family we had a great time (despite the rain and an early exit due to a poorly tent). It was a good introduction to a grown-up festival for the kids and my nine-year-old LOVED the music.
Beautiful Days 2017 Review
Beautiful Days certainly holds a special place in my heart. It was our first family festival back in 2011 when our children were 7 and 3 years old. We loved it then and returned in 2012 and 2015 and felt the same. We had been really looking forward to this year’s festival, and as always it exceeded expectations! Read more…
Nozstock 2017 Review
Our family attended our third Nozstock this summer and yet again had an amazing weekend of fun and frolics! The festival is set in the beautiful rolling hills of Bromyard, Herefordshire and is a magical place to visit.
Valley Fest 2017 Review
Valley Fest was one of the most perfect family friendly festivals I’ve ever been to. It had everything – a beautiful setting, loads of activities, great music for adults, a friendly vibe, excellent organisation and the most lovely stewards you will ever meet. It’s difficult to find anything about it we didn’t like, except possibly that it’s too short – one more day please!
Y Not Festival 2017 Review
The website had promised a family field with family wristband entry nice and close to the car park for easy unloading so it was probably the best place for my family to be anyway. However when we got there it wasn’t quite as I had imagined.
Starry Skies 2017 Review
This was my family’s first time at Starry Skies. When I showed my two children the Festival website they were both immediately sold on it. It is a beautiful family gathering, close to the Welsh border, with the main emphasis on encouraging children to enjoy their natural habitat. The event is exclusively for families, predominantly those with young children. There are generally about 250 families attending Starry Skies each year. Read more…
Folk by the Oak 2017 Review
“Mummy, can we come back here again?” asked my six-year-old as we made our way towards the car park. The end of ‘What a Beautiful Day’ was playing out from the Levellers’ encore on the main stage. To the left of the stage fireworks fizzed and cracked in the night sky.
“Would you like to?” I asked him.
“Oh, yes, I really do. I don’t want to leave.”

Camp Bestival 2017 Review
We last visited Camp Bestival 5 years ago when the kids were really small, so were keen to go back and see how it had developed. Having a 7 and 11 year old it seemed the perfect safe festival to give them some freedom and for us to relax.
Deer Shed Festival 2017 Review
We are Deer Shed regulars and we have enjoyed many happy years of basking in the sun, or at most a light shower. It had to happen at some time – finally Deer Shed festival got hit by the rain. So this is Deer shed festival review – the muddy edition. Did the mud stop us from having a great time – no of course not!
