Babywearing at Festivals

Toddler_Carrier_mediumAngeline Braidwood, owner of Sleepy Nico, tells us why babywearing is so good for festivals and gives us her tips for choosing the best baby carrier for you…

If you were lucky enough to spend a magical weekend at the Just So Festival in Cheshire last year you may have seen or even made use of the free sling hire that was available. Chester Sling Library had a popular stall just at the entrance of the festival and parents could leave a deposit (cash, car keys) and borrow a sling or baby carrier. Amanda and Lucy who ran the stall also gave out lots of advice and showed everyone how to use the sling of their choice. It was conveniently located next to the buggy park!

The last time I was at Glastonbury festival I saw a family struggling over the fields with a pushchair and despite the lovely weather it looked like such hard work. So why take a sling with you to a festival this summer? Read more…

Festival Baby – Glasto with an 8 week old!

baby-with-glasto-programmeFESTIVAL BABY! – a Guest Blog by Zarah Ross

“Are you mad?!”…  That was the reaction that we got from everyone when we told them of our plan.  “You’ll change your mind once the baby comes”, people warned.  But what was it that was deemed to be madness by all around us?  Simply taking our 8 week old baby to the largest music festival in the world… Glastonbury!

Experience over Presents?

Eila, throwing herself into the festival vibe!

It’s my daughter’s birthday in a few weeks and like any child she sees adverts for toys on the TV and says “I want that for my birthday Mummy” it’s usually toys from programmes she has never watched or toys she has never shown an interest in and I know that if I was to buy any of them she would have suddenly decided that she no longer wants it or has completely forgotten that she wanted it.

Last year I decided that her “big” presents would be experiences, namely tickets to the Fairy Fair and to In The Night Garden live, these probably cost the same as buying her the latest toys except she has gained so much more.

First Festival? Emma’s choosing Larmer Tree 2012

hair fibre optics emmaGuest Blogger, Emma Parkes-McQueen and her Family do: Larmer Tree 2012

I have to stand up , raise my hand and admit it:

“Hello, my name is Emma and I am a Festival Virgin.”

Well, I went to Reading once when I was 21 but we camped at a site 5 miles away and only went there to pogo at the Chilli Peppers then went home – so that doesn’t count.  Read more…

Discarded Tents

Glastonbury discarded tents

Last year, in the pouring rain and gale force winds, I spent several hours at a festival packing discarded tents. All the camping gear (tents, chairs, sleeping bags, roll mats, and water carriers) was destined for local scout groups. It had all been abandoned. Left just as the festival punters had used it, tents up, beds made, chairs in little circles.  We packed it all up and loaded up our trailers. Read more…

Festival Essentials for Babies

Izzy Blissfields Day 1Becky from Munchies and Munchkins has kindly let us share her lovely post about her first festival experience with her baby Izzy.  Here she shares her list of essentials…

“We have spent the last five days at Blissfields Festival in Winchester.. It was an unexpected success and we had a fantastic time. I say unexpected as even though I knew the festival would be fab (having attended last year) I was slightly worried about how Izzy would react to the crowds, noise, new place and most importantly how she would sleep.

Post Festival Blues

Post Festival Blues… Is it just me?

It was February 2010 and we were finally fulfilling our dream of owning a VW camper. As regular festival goers, my husband and I had decided that we wanted to share our festival experiences with our children. So after spending many months researching VW’s we were finally on our way to view one. That was the day I fell in love with Dolly, we HAD to have her!

Teenage Kicks

For the last 13 years or so I have been going to festivals with my family. When the boys were babies it was relatively easy to get around, see what I fancied, and have some fun.

When they were busy and approaching school age it got harder. I started to offer to help organise kid’s fields. Mainly so there was something for them to do that I knew would keep their attention for the 3 & 1/2 minutes that I wasn’t holding onto them.

The last 10 years I have persevered and stuck at it, now they are approaching teenage-hood and are well experienced travellers and festival goers! Read more…

Rain Rain Rain

Well I was full of good intentions at the end of last year’s festival season. I would write lovely reviews, fix the tent, buy some amazing retro equipment to go with my shiny new camper van and I would have a easy to read calendar on the fridge of all our away days as a family (colour coded of course). But, alas, here I am, sitting indoors with only weeks to go before the end of term, listening to the rain and wondering what to do next. Without a camper van in sight!
