Camp Bestival 2011 Review

2011 Camp Bestival Weather: Overcast on Friday with a light shower, rain on Sat AM but beautiful sunshine for the rest of the weekend.

Check out our Guest Blog from Melksham Mum on her Camp Besti Experience and also see some other in-depth CB reviews from The Arts Desk , Madame Guillotine, Family Festivals and Tattooed Mummy

Review by: Anonymous (with 10-12 year olds)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

Long walk to the camping, despite paying for an extra day, was pretty full and getting spots for two family tents on a reasonably flat area was hard.  Most campers were pleasant but quite a lot of rowdy teens.

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

Very good adult / older teen lineup, plenty for under 5’s but lacks things for the older primary / younger teen age group this year. Read more…

2011 WOMAD Weather: Little bit of light rain on Friday but weekend was lovely and sunny

Review by: Freya, age 10

Hi! My name is Freya and I am at Womad.

My favourite things about Womad are: the people are all kind, the music is wicked and the food is lush!
The thing I don’t like about Womad is that they always make the bass too loud so if they have a bass in the band you always either have to buy ear-plugs or go to the back of the crowd.

If I had to rate this festival I would give it 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review by: James Adamczuk (with 2 kids: 4 and 8 )

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

Easy, family camping south area was very near the parking, other campers were friendly and there was lots of space – was great!

Camp Bestival 2011

** Photos have been removed, due to broken links – sorry! **

This post will hopefully convince anyone who has hummed and hahhed over taking their children to a festival. E is currently in bed moaning that she wants to go back & A keeps getting up wondering why he isn’t still out having fun in the Castle Field watching live music and having a better time than being at home!

Port Eliot 2011 Review

2011 Port Eliot Festival Weather: Luckily fine – except one rainy day where path areas became a little sticky in places.

Review by: Emma Vyvyan (with 6-12 year olds)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

No queue.  Easy to get in from the main road.  Very quiet. Stuff carried from field car park around 10-15 mins away (which would be max).  Plenty of room to spread out into a little further away too. Everyone really friendly and distinct campervan, family camping, etc. areas which helps.

2011 Larmer Tree Festival Weather: Heavy rain showers on Friday eve, Saturday and Sunday.

Review by: Anne Salway Luxford (with a nearly 3 year old)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

We got in almost straight away. I couldn’t fault the organisation. The car park is separate from the camping area, but we had brought our own wagon (which we also used to transport our boy, especially at night as he could lie down in it) and a pushchair and that helped a lot with transporting all our stuff – I’d definitely recommend bringing a wagon or wheelbarrow (or hiring a wagon from “Mr Trolley” on site, if you don’t mind paying).

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

We arrived Thursday evening around 7. We had set off at 4 o’clock, met friends not far from the site at 5.15 but then took some time to get onto the site & to be directed to a plot. We were booked into the family campervan area & were a bit worried when we arrived as it already seemed to be very busy. Although in 2010 we had not arrived until the Friday morning, we were much further back this year in the family campervan area & were glad we had made the effort to get there Thurs.

Chilled in a Field 2011 Review

The weather at Chilled in a Field 2011 was wonderfully sunny then heavy rain on Friday, patchy sunshine rest of time with light rain Sunday. A bit cold and windy on the last day.

Review by: Fairy (with 3 year old)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

There was no queue at all, and I never saw more than 3 or 4 at a time waiting to get in. The campsite was organised into “quiet in the morning” and “quiet in the evening” with plenty of space in each for us to choose where to set up our family camp. We had 5 children, and 8 tents in our camp area, so were quite self-contained, not affected by other campers, but close enough to everyone to still enjoy. The walk from car to tent was not very far at all, although there is a hill, but there were people on hand to help carry your stuff for a small donation. On the exit day, due to the bad weather, we were able to drive our car down to pack up. This was a luxury I can not thank them enough for!

2011 Small Nations Weather: Mixed, the weather had been lovely the week before, turned a bit wet during the weekend, but no real problems.

Review by: Anon (with 4 kids, aged 8, 10, 11 and 12)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

No problems ! We joined others who had set up camp during the week as staff, parked right at the front of the parking field, wheel barrowed all our stuff in and found the family field really easily.

Entertainment – Line up and Kids Activities:

Kids activities were in the main field so we didn’t miss anything, genius!  Read more…

Lounge on the Farm 2011 Review

2011 LOTF Festival Weather: Showers Friday, mostly sunny rest of weekend, bar a few showers on Saturday. Very heavy rain overnight on the Friday night but the farm is very well draining so it didn’t really have a major impact. A tad chilly.

Review by: Ami (with 13, 6, 5 and 4 year olds)

Getting to the festival and setting up camp:

We have a campervan so were in a seperate field to the tents, there field did look like it was on quite a slope though!  There was also Boutique Camping available which was in hired Bell Tents.  There was no delay in getting on to site or to get our wristbands as we drove in but some of the staff seemed unsure of where to direct us.  Others that we camped with had to wait over an hour in a queue to get their wristbands.
